read moreSingapore’s Marina Bay Sands integrated resort is poised for a major expansion that will introduce a new all-suite hotel tower and a 15,000-seat arena next to its existing landmark three towers.
Aiming to make the new arena Asia’s leading entertainment venue, the expansion will feature a new sky roof at the top of the new tower, premium space to accommodate expanded conventions, along with new food and beverage and nightlife venues.
Budgetted to cost S$4.5 billion (US$3.3 billion), the expansion is expected to begin by July 2025 and reach completion by July 2029.
It is being undertaken in addition to a current refurbishment project costing S$2.4 billion (US$1.75 billion).
Announcing the expansion, Patrick Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Marina Bay Sands’ parent company, Las Vegas Sands, stated “with the ongoing support of the Singapore Government, this development will further enhance the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore.
“It optimises the site’s programming elements and is designed to drive high-value tourism growth to Singapore.”
Highlighting the expected impact of the expansion, Dumont noted “the all-suite hotel tower will set new standards of hospitality, the state-of-the-art arena will help attract the highest-calibre global entertainment events and artists, and the additional convention and exhibition space will extend the success of Singapore as a leading MICE destination.
“This significant investment in Singapore will help ensure Marina Bay Sands is ideally positioned to grow its economic, employment and visitorship contributions in the years ahead.”
This expansion project is being undertaken in addition to a US$1.75 billion reinvestment in the existing property. This reinvestment has so far seen the refurbishment of Hotel Towers 1 and 2, as well as the creation of new dining offerings and luxury lifestyle amenities.
Showing significant benefits to Singapore’s tourism sector, more than 470 million people have visited Marina Bay Sands since it opened in 2010. The resort has also contributed towards the city’s business tourism appeal having hosted over 1,750 new-to-Singapore business events.
The expansion has been designed by original architects of the property, Safdie Architects.
