Singapore's National Healthy Lifestyle Campaign is to be remade to inspire more Singaporeans.
Speaking in the Singapore Parliament on Friday, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Hawazi Daipi, said the Ministry would build a new health promotion model where obesity wil be made the focus of the campaign.
Together with the Health Promotion Board, the Ministry will work with grassroots organisations to co-create a model for each community.
This includes providing expertise, tools and training to develop health champions in a constituency who can act as agents of change.
Shopping malls will also be encouraged to implement health-promoting initiatives.
One idea is to have ï¾Mall Walksï¾ where Singaporeans can brisk walk and do other exercises in a safe and weather-proof setting.
Another focus for the Health Ministry will be the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Minister Hawazi said the Ministry would make it simple for SMEs to implement workplace health programmes by offering customisable off-the-shelf workplace health packages for them.
The Ministry will continue to support SMEs through the Workplace Health Grant which offers 90 percent funding to implement programmes, up to a cap of $10,000.
Since the scheme was extended to SMEs in 2009, 90 SMEs have benefited.
For larger companies, another 200 firms benefit each year from the Workplace Health Grant.
Minister Hawazi said MOH would also strengthen and form new partnerships with trade associations so that health activities can be offered to their member companies.
The Singapore Manufacturers' Federation is the first to partner the Health Promotion Board.
A hundred of its member companies have pledged to implement comprehensive workplace health promotion for their employees.
