read moreAs temperatures dip, overnight snowfalls at Mt Kosciuszko represent the approach of Australia's winter sports season.
Sharing the development, Thredbo Media has advised that Australia’s highest peak has “a new white coat following snow flurries this morning.
“Temperatures are currently sitting around 0 degrees, and are expected to dip to as low as -5 degrees over the coming days with more snowfall predicted.”
With the snow season set to commence on 11th June, winter resorts are preparing for opening weekend events, with Thredbo set to mark the event with a big line-up of entertainment, activities and parties.
On the MountainWatch website an analyis of weather trend suggest that the Australia snow season could be impacted by high sea surface temperatures stretching from the eastern Indian Ocean to the Western Pacific.
With this likely to result in an abundant supply of moisture feeding into weather systems as they approach the Australian Alps, low temperatures will result in snow, while higher temperatures will result in rain.
In New Zealand, the Government is to allow 275 experienced international ski sector workers to enter the country for the winter season.
