read moreThe South Australian Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS) recently held an industry workshop to provide South Australian state sporting organisations with an update on the work being done to protect the integrity of sport.
The workshop focussed on providing information and education on the issues identified in the Australian Crime Commission (ACC)'s 'Organised Crime Drugs in Sport'/Project APERIO report released earlier this year.
The National Sport Integrity Unit (NISU) First Assistant Secretary, Andrew Godkin, outlined to the audience the function of NISU and its expanded capacity since the release of the ACC's report.
The functions of the NISU now also involve leading the response on Project APERIO recommendations, which include:
• Establishing integrity units within sports
• Establishing probity guidelines
• Reviewing peptide supply regulations
• Reviewing and strengthen ASADA powers
• Educative programs about threats from Organised Crime
• Improving information sharing on integrity threats
• Licensing framework for Sports Scientists
ORS Executive Director Paul Anderson shared the work that ORS is doing to protect the integrity of sport at a sub-elite level. Anderson briefed the audience on initiatives that ORS has implemented to achieve these aims. These initiatives include:
Placing sport integrity related obligations into funding agreements
The requirement of funded organisations to work with their sporting bodies to develop, adopt and implement a Match Fixing Policy or Code of Conduct for their sport in South Australia.
The appointment Sport Integrity and Sports Governance officers to assist organisations with integrity and governance related issues.
