With political relations between the two nations improving following a state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to South Korea in July last year, Everland Resort’s operator Samsung C&T Corp and China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) have agreed preparations for the relocation of the Giant Pandas.
The China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) will be responsible for the relocation and will monitor the Giant Pandas while they are at Everland Resort, carrying out co-research over the next 15 years.
Samsung C&T Corp has already commenced the building of a world-class habitat for the Pandas and state-of-the-art areas for visitors to view and interact with the animals.
Samsung Everland received golden monkeys from China in 2007 and has been conducting a joint research project of endangered species with CWCA.
For more than half a century, China has used its Pandas to help foster relationships with other countries. These diplomatic loans have seen the animals located to Adelaide and Hong Kong in recent years, with the New Zealand Government currently considering an application to host a pair of Pandas at Wellington Zoo.
