The group were the very first members of the public to experience the adrenalin rush that is Abyss after the $12 million ride was officially opened on the night of Halloween (31st October).
With giant heart-pounding twists and turns, and huge stomach-churning drops, Australia's newest roller coaster has a horror theme.
Representing the single largest investment in Adventure World's 30-year history, the Gerstlauer custom built coaster firmly establishes Adventure World in the global theme park market.
The new attraction's first riders were lucky winners of The Chosen Ones, an online team-based treasure hunt that called on players to protect the world from the power of the Abyss. The four winners and their special guests are roller coaster devotees who jumped at the chance to win front-row screams on Australia's most thrilling roller coaster.
Boasting the latest and most advanced white-knuckle ride technology in Australia, Abyss is a spectacular custom-built roller coaster that reaches between -1 and 4.5 GForces.
Adventure World Chief Executive Mark Shaw said that after months of anticipation and excitement, both nationally and internationally, the theme park was delighted to officially unleash Abyss on Australian thrill-seekers.
Shaw explained "this is without doubt the most exhilarating ride visitors to Adventure World have ever experienced.
"It's a thrill ride like no other.
"With the ride's highest peak reaching 100ft above the ground we are sure the screams will be heard far and wide as the brave and courageous find themselves propelled at speeds of more than 85km per hour during a two-minute heart pounding journey.
"An eerie fully themed experience, Abyss represents the pinnacle of recent ride and attraction developments at Adventure World. On the world stage, it takes us from (being an) 'adventure park' to (a) 'theme park'."
Tourism Council of Western Australia Chief Executive Evan Hall added "investment in attractions such as Adventure World, is critical for getting visitors to WA.
"This new tourism asset will be enjoyed by both visitors and locals alike."
Shipped in 45 x 13 metre containers from German roller coaster specialist Gerstlauer, Abyss features four inversions through daylight and a secret section ridden in the dark, plus a zero-g-roll, rollover loop, cobra roll and inline loop.
