read moreSport Australia has launched the second phase of ‘Move It AUS’, its behaviour change campaign encouraging Australian adults to 'Find Your 30' minutes of heartrate-raising activity every day and children to find 60 minutes a day.
Almost two thirds of Australian adults are insufficiently active and Sport Australia has enlisted a band of 'Tiny Trainers' to help get Australians moving more often.
With Sport Australia research showing that parents heavily influence the physical activity of their children, Sport Australia General Manager of Marketing Customer Insights and Analytics Louise Eyres says the ‘Tiny Trainers’ campaign flips the script and sees children encouraging adults to get moving.
Eyres advises “our AusPlay research shows children with at least one inactive parent are 68% more likely to be inactive themselves.
“So if parents and adults get active, then children are more likely to follow and be active themselves.
“The biggest barrier cited by adults when it comes to participating in sport and physical activity is not enough time or too many commitments, yet we know screen time is taking up more and more hours of our day. So Sport Australia’s Tiny Trainers are about to step into your digital world with fun and cheeky reminders to ‘Move It AUS’ and ‘Find Your 30’.”
The innovative digital-first campaign will see the Tiny Trainers sending out motivational message online. Your search activity on screen can even influence your physical activity message. Search home and gardens and you may be promoted to 'Make getting fit your next DIY project'. Search for the latest footy results and a Tiny Trainer will be there to urge you to ‘Get out there and start kicking some goals of your own’.
Eyres added “the serious message behind the campaign is that 65% of Australian adults do not meet the physical activity guidelines, of which 10% are inactive.
“Physical inactivity causes chronic disease, is a multi-billion dollar burden on the health system and is killing Australians.”
Top five barriers to adults participating in sport (from AusPlay, Sport Australia’s research)
• Not enough time/too many other commitments 32.5%
• Poor health or injury 27.7%
• Not a priority (any more) 9.3%
• Increasing age/too old 6.5%
• Too lazy 5.6%
