Sport Climbing Australia looks to recruit first Chief Executive
March 10, 2025

Sport Climbing Australia (SCA), the national governing body responsible for the sport of climbing in Australia, has commenced a search for its inaugural Chief Executive.

Advising that “we are embarking on an ambitious and exciting journey”, SCA have advertised the position, explaining that the Chief Executive “will be responsible for both the delivery of the strategic vision of Sport Climbing Australia and ensuring its effective day-to-day operations”.

SCA has seen significant growth in recent years, with the number of competitive climbers registered with the national sporting 0rganisation tripling over the past seven years, indicating a substantial rise in participation at both amateur and competitive levels across the country.

Its growth has also been boosted by a rise in the number of bouldering and climbing wall facilities - used for recreational climbing and fitness.

The debut of sport climbing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has further boosted the sport's popularity and visibility in Australia.

SCA notes “sport climbing is one of the Olympics’ and Paralympics’ newest and most exciting sports. “Excitingly, sport climbing participation is rapidly growing in Australia and SCA is working to leverage current sport development opportunities to implement athlete development pathways conduct technical workforce development activities, bid for and host world class sport climbing events, develop participation programming that brings new people to our sport and support industry development.”
