SportWest reveals WA Sport Awards finalists

SportWest has revealed the finalists for the 2023 WA Sport Awards, determined after the receipt of more than 200 nominations.

The award program’s independent selection panels have selected 52 finalists across 13 award categories, including the four new categories: RSM Australia Community Sport Volunteer of the Year, Community Sporting Event of the Year, Sport Initiative of the Year, Organisation of the Year.

Advising that the number of nominations showed how strong sport has been in Western Australia in 2023, SportWest acting Chief Executive, Ashleigh Apps stated “the number and quality of nominations received is reflective of the superb year Western Australia has had in sport. From the high performance arena through to grassroots, this stellar lineup of finalists has demonstrated remarkable dedication and achievement in their respective fields.

“I would like to congratulate all those who were nominated as well as those that have been selected as Finalists and I look forward to celebrating, as a sector, at our annual WA Sport Awards.”

The winners in each category will be revealed at the 2023 WA Sport Awards, presented by SportWest, which will take place on Thursday 29th February 2024 at HBF Stadium.

The event promises to be an evening of celebration, networking, and recognition, bringing together industry leaders, athletes, and the community.

The 12 finalists for the WA Sports Star, and the Finalists for the Service to Sport - May Campbell Medal, will be announced closer to the event.

Finalists for the other categories are:

Amelie Reid (cycling - BMX racing), Chloe Ainsworth (cricket), Daniel Curtin (Australian rules football), Iona Anderson (swimming), Joseph Buttress (golf), Mimi Ngo (badminton)

Team of the Year
Perth Scorchers (BBL - cricket), Perth Steel Men's Team (volleyball), Perth Steel Women's Team (volleyball), WA Men's cricket Team (cricket)

Coach of the Year
Adam Voges (cricket), Paul Burgess (athletics), Ritchie Smith (golf)

ActiveXchange Official of the Year
Fiona Haigh (water polo), Michelle McMurdo (gymnastics), Tim Kennedy (lacrosse)

RSM Australia Community Sport Volunteer of the Year (new award)
Connor Clarke (kendo), Mathew Vine (athletics), Renae Fussell (football)
