Stepz Fitness has introduced QR code labels across its gyms which provide members with instant online exercise tuition when scanned with a smart phone.

In one of the first moves of its kind in Australia, the 24/7 gym franchise has rolled out special codes on all pieces of equipment including treadmills, rowing machines, ellipticals and weights.

Gym members who scan a QR code with their smart phone are directed to a YouTube Stepz Fitness video which explains how to safely and effectively use that piece.

The code technology is available across Stepz Fitness' seven gyms in Brisbane and Sydney and work with any QR reader app.

Stepz Fitness Managing Director Quang Tran explains "this is one of the first moves of its kind in the Australian fitness industry and fits in perfectly with the 24-7 gym model.

"When a staff member isn't around, or even for the gym-goer who may be too embarrassed to ask for help, the QR code will take them directly to an online video which explains the best techniques and exercises for that piece.

"The technology provides easy and instant access to a virtual personal trainer no matter the time of day."

For example, members who scan the code on an upright bike will learn how to adjust the seat height, change the resistance and adopt the correct posture.

Tran believes that the fitness industry is undergoing a technology revolution with smartphones and apps changing the way people exercised.

He adds "QR code technology is just another way to keep people engaged, supported and motivated.

"It's also another way for Stepz Fitness to add value as a brand and stand out in a competitive industry.

"We're big on innovation and we'll be looking at implementing other clever technology solutions in the future."

Stepz Fitness also offers state-of-the-art equipment with touchscreen displays which lets members surf the web while they work out.

Stepz Fitness gyms are located in Brisbane CBD, St Lucia, Stones Corner, Wynnum, Toowong, Cannon Hill and Burwood. The franchise plans to expand to at least 50 clubs in the next three years.
