read moreLeading Australian-owned cleaning, hygiene and waste management services company, Quayclean Australia, successfully completed its nation-wide Safe Work Month education program in October, designed to empower its teams to be mentally, physically, and emotionally safe and healthy at work.
The Safe Work Month program involved over 100 senior staff ranging from the executive leadership group, general managers, operation and contract managers being informed about the latest workplace safety learnings and practices including the safe handling of chemicals and operating machinery.
Additionally, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) was invited to facilitate workshops which covered psychosocial hazards in the workplace.
Senior staff then presented, shared and discussed the information with their operational teams at onsite Toolbox meetings in preparation for a busy events schedule including Spring Racing Carnivals, Live Nation Concerts, the Summer of Cricket and Australian Open 2025 planning.
Quayclean’s National Head of Work Health & Safety, Daniel Nicholls advised “cleaning tasks involve using specialist machinery and performing manual work, including mopping, wiping surfaces, moving rubbish bags, furniture and equipment and we want to ensure our teams follow the correct safety procedures and adopt the most efficient physical cleaning techniques to avoid any injury.’
Nicholls said he was thrilled to see teams conducting stretching sessions before shifts and sharing insights on recognising stress.
“Perth racecourse Venue Manager, Fharon Fuenzalida, kick-started onsite stretching sessions and that has had a ripple effect with teams at Sydney Opera House, Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Melbourne Markets and other many sites following suit,” added Nicholls.
“These stretching sessions are not only help prevent injury, but they are excellent for mental health and building team camaraderie.’
Chief Executive, Mark Piwkowski, said Quayclean has a fantastic team of workers and said staff care is a 365-day job and not just a one-off month campaign.
“We deeply care about the physical and mental wellbeing of our workers, and we want to maintain a healthy workplace where we effectively manage all hazard and risk factors” said Piwkowski.
