read moreWith the worst of the weekend's severe weather having left the region and the sun shining again, the Sunshine Coast has been in clean up mode and is open for business.
Over the weekend, the region experienced wet and windy conditions and some localised flooding as a direct result of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald.
Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) Chief Executive Steve Cooper explained "Bookings were affected over the weekend with cancellations due to the weather and power outages affecting some business trade, but overall there has been limited major infrastructure damage.
"This wet weather follows what has been a hot, dry summer for most of Australia and the Sunshine Coast region has been cleaning up today with the majority of tourism businesses open and operational."
As of 4pm on Tuesday 29th January:
• Sunshine Coast Airport is open;
• Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Sunshine Coast is open;
• Trains are operating from Brisbane to Caboolture and buses from Caboolture to the Sunshine Coast;
• Some minor roads in the region are still closed;
• Beaches are closed as a precaution due to surf conditions ;
• Hinterland areas still experiencing some disruptions due to power being restored by and clean up with tree debris.
SCDL is working with Tourism Events Queensland, the Sunshine Coast tourism industry, government and other stakeholders on strategies to assist affected tourism businesses in getting back on their feet.
