read moreDue to ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID restrictions, Australasia’s premier art fair, Sydney Contemporary has rescheduled their physical art fair to September 2022 while also offering a digital edition - Explore Sydney Contemporary - from 11th to 21st November.
Providing crucial support for the arts community, Explore Sydney Contemporary will feature 1,800 artworks by more than 450 artists hailing from countries including Australia, China, England, France, Ghana, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa and Thailand, alongside a digital public program to be announced in the coming weeks.
Sydney Contemporary Founder Tim Etchells notes “when rescheduling the physical Fair to the November 2021 dates, we genuinely believed that we could run the Fair as we had always planned but regrettably, as the COVID pandemic continues to impact Australia, the Sydney Contemporary team believes that a digital delivery is the safest way for us to support artists and the broader arts community at this time.
“Sydney Contemporary represents the largest concentration of art sales each year, so this was not an easy decision and without the physical fair, we feel it is important to present a platform that will stimulate sales for artists and their galleries. We look forward to returning in 2022 with the most exciting edition of Sydney Contemporary yet!”
Barry Keldoulis, Fair Director of Sydney Contemporary added “While we are disappointed not to hold a physical fair for the second year in a row, we look forward to still being able to create a place for seasoned collectors and emerging art lovers alike to explore and buy new work by exciting contemporary artists from around the world. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of the galleries and encourage people to support the visual arts community in the most direct way possible – by purchasing the work of artists.”
Andrew Martin, Head of Asset Management at MA Financial Group commented “understandably we are saddened to hear the physical Fair is unable to run in November 2021. We are in full support of Sydney Contemporary’s decision to move the 2021 edition of the Fair online in the interest of maintaining the safety of all involved. We look forward to participating as the Principal Partner of Sydney Contemporary 2022 and are confident the 2022 edition will be the best yet.”
Please visit the Sydney Contemporary website for further updates. Full details of the digital edition will be announced in October 2021. https://sydneycontemporary.com.au
Sydney Contemporary will return to Carriageworks, 8th – 11th September 2022 with a Collector Preview on Wednesday 7th September.
