read moreSwimming Australia has appointed Tracey Menzies-Stegbauer as the Technical Lead as part of the Swimming Australia Coach Leadership Team.
With a focus on working closely with coaches of categorised athletes in the National Flippers Squad across Victoria and Tasmania, Menzies-Stegbauer will also provide direction and support to the Pathway Managers at Swimming Victoria and Swimming Tasmania.
Swimming Australia’s General Manager Performance Pathways, Gary Barclay advised “Tracey brings a strong knowledge and experiences that will benefit swimming coaches working at the high performance and performance pathways within the sport across Victoria and Tasmania. We welcome Tracey back to Swimming Australia.”
Menzies-Stegbauer will join the Swimming Australia Coach Leadership Team that also includes Australian Dolphins Head Coach Rohan Taylor as well as coaches Leigh Nugent, Simon Cusack and Mel Tantrum, the group to lead, support and develop coaches and their athletes building towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As one of the sport’s most respected coaches, Menzies-Stegbauer brings a wealth of experience to the role having coached Ian Thorpe to two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games as well as team coach on six Australian teams including the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games and Head Coach for six Australian Youth and World University teams.
Commenting on her appointment, Menzies-Stegbauer shared “I look forward to starting this role with Swimming Australia with the goal to further develop high performance coaching and improve athletic performances in Victoria, Tasmania and around the country.
“Technical excellence, planning, education, and athlete well being are central to my coaching approach. I am excited to work with coaches and their athletes and will use my skills, knowledge and experience to continue to mentor, coach and enable technical and collaborative performance environments for athletes and coaches in swimming.”
Swimming Victoria Chief Executive Jason Hellwig enthused “we are delighted to welcome Tracey to the Victorian swimming community and congratulate Swimming Australia on their investment and work to bring Tracey into this important and exciting role. She has a track record of success and will make a positive difference to Victorian Swimming. We look forward to supporting her to develop Victoria’s very best swimmers and coaches.”
Swimming Tasmania Chief Executive Jamie McIntyre added “we are very excited to have Tracey’s support for our coaches and athletes. Tracey’s understanding of high performance together with her education background make her a great fit for this role in Tasmania.”
