Tenders sought for construction of natural sports fields at Orange Sports Complex

Tenders sought for construction of natural sports fields at Orange Sports Complex
February 16, 2024

The NSW Government has today announced that the next stage of construction will soon commence on the long-awaited state funded $59.5 million Orange Sports Complex.

Following a collaborative design review between Orange City Council and the State Government, the project will proceed in stages to ensure it is delivered on budget and in the best interests of the community.

The first stage to be delivered by Orange City Council will be comprised of eight multi-purpose playing fields.

Orange City Council is seeking tenders from suitably qualified contractors for the construction of eight natural turf sports fields and drainage at the Orange Sports Precinct.

The general works to be undertaken but not limited to, will consist of the following activities:

  • Eight Training Fields are to be constructed with a 200mm sand-based sports field profile with trenched in sub-surface drains and fully automated irrigation system.
  • Final surface works for the eight Training Fields shall include the installation of Santa Ana sprigs.
  • Install Conduits with draw wires and Pits for power and communications to the future sports field lighting.

Orange City Council Mayor Jason Hamling welcomed the announcement on the next stage of construction for the Orange Sports Precinct advising “I’m just happy to see this vital community project go ahead at last. This has been one of my key commitments to the people of Orange and I will continue to work with the NSW Government to see this through.”

Local residents can look forward to seeing works on the training fields completed by the end of 2024

Following this, work is expected to be undertaken by the Council in 2025 to deliver the rectangular field and stadium which will support sporting events across the region, particularly men and women’s soccer, rugby union and rugby league.

The final stage of work will see the delivery of an athletics facility.

Once completed, this complex will provide a much-needed additional regional sporting hub, which will allow young athletes to thrive and support the local tourism industry.

NSW Premier Chris Minns noted “this is an important step towards delivering this long-awaited community infrastructure.

“I look forward to the next generation of NSW sporting legends getting to play at a completed Orange Sports Complex soon.”

Closing date for tenders: 2pm, 28th March, 2024.
