The Bigger Ball was founded in 2021 during COVID. While it wasn’t possible to get out and play golf, the team at The Bigger Ball - as enthusiasts of both golf and sustainability - questioned what they could do to be proactive and do their part to stop single-use plastic.
The Bigger Ball recognises the importance of protecting and preserving the environment. Sustainability is a core principle of their operations, from eliminating plastic golf tees, to exploring sustainable materials, they are committed to minimising their ecological footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices in the sport.
The Bigger Ball spotlight their ongoing sustainability initiatives and how they are driving positive change in the golfing community:
Removing Plastic Tees from the Game
“Our original passion and the first step towards sustainability in the golfing industry was to drive the end of plastic tees being used in the golfing industry all together, with the creation of our Bamboo Golf Tees. Bamboo is a sustainable and rapidly renewable resource, making it the perfect eco-friendly switch for golf tees.
“Plastic tees contribute to environmental pollution and take centuries to decompose. By introducing bamboo golf tees as a viable alternative, we have significantly reduced the usage of plastic and its detrimental impact on nature. Our tees are available in seven different sizes, ranging from 25mm to 83mm, to suit any shot needs.”
Exploring Sustainable Materials
“While Bamboo Golf tees are an excellent start, we don’t want to stop there. We’re continuously researching and developing sustainable materials to create apparel, accessories and, maybe even clubs in the future. Our dedicated team is committed to finding innovative solutions that uphold our commitment to sustainability without compromising on performance or quality. By exploring new materials, we aim to redefine the standards of eco-conscious golfing equipment.
Customisable Bag Tags crafted from wood
“One of our newer additions is our Customisable Bag Tags - these are the ideal complement for clubs, events, charities and corporations. These bag tags can be customised with your company name, logo or any preferred text, making it the perfect personal touch.
“Proudly made with high-quality craftsmanship in the UK, our tags are FSC-certified and are available for ordering in quantities as low as 12 tags, with flexibility on total numbers to suit your specific needs. Crafted from both natural and coloured kinds of wood, we offer a diverse range of options to match any personal design preference.”
Bamboo Fibre Golf Towels
“Our 100% sustainable Bamboo Fibre Golf Towels are both practical and an eco-friendly choice. Crafted from Bamboo fibre, they’re designed to be absorbent, quick-drying and easy-to-clean. For added convenience while playing, we’ve included a carabiner clip that securely attaches the towel to your bag, making it readily accessible whenever you need it (and it won’t fly off the back of your golf buggy).
“The soft microfibre material is ideal for keeping your clubs clean and maintaining their pristine condition throughout your game. With our Bamboo Microfibre Towel, you can enjoy the benefits of a high-quality, functional golf towel that will enhance your golfing experience, all the while making a conscious choice to support sustainable production practices.”
Collaborating and Engaging with the Golfing Community for Change
The Bigger Ball understand that sustainability is a collective effort. By joining forces, they aim to amplify their impact and drive change on a larger scale. From eco-friendly manufacturing processes to responsible sourcing, their collaborations focus on creating a sustainable golfing eco-system that benefits players, club owners and the environment.
They actively seek and are always open to new partnerships and collaborations with like-minded organisations and individuals who share their vision for a greener future.
They believe “awareness and education play a crucial role in promoting sustainability in the golfing industry and aim to spread awareness of the environmental impact of golfing equipment whilst advocating for sustainable alternatives. We aim to inspire golfers worldwide to make conscious choices that support a greener future.”
