Three point basketball courts promote physical activity, strengthen social inclusion and community connections, and support young people’s development.

Recognising their benefits, Greater Shepparton City Council has advised that the three point basketball court construction projects in both Kialla Lakes and Merrigum have been completed.

The projects, identified through Community Action Plans and funded through Council’s 2023-2024 capital budget, have been long-awaited facilities for both communities to use and enjoy.

The courts in both Kialla Lakes and Merrigum will significantly enhance the community’s health and wellbeing, as well as provide an inclusive space for recreational activities for all ages.

Following the completion of both three point basketball courts, Council’s Community Development team will host launch events at both sites.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali, highlighted the importance of both projects and encouraged community members to make the most of these new courts.

“It is fantastic to see both of these projects completed for residents to enjoy. The courts can be utilised for local sport events and tournaments, bringing people together and fostering community spirit,” he shared.

“Council is committed to improving community facilities and promoting active healthy lifestyles. I encourage everyone to get down to the official launch events and make the most of these fantastic new courts.”

The launch events for both courts will feature a basketball clinic by the Shepparton Gators, a basketball shooting machine, giant games and giveaways for all to enjoy.

The Merrigum event will be on 4th September, and the Kialla Lakes event on 5th September, both from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm.
