Townsville City Council has just completed a public consultation exercise on upgrading its popular beach side water play park.

In operation for 15 years, the Council feels that Strand Water Park is in need of a makeover and hase been consulting with Townsville locals and visitors as to what an upgraded facility should look like.

With an upgrade expected to cost $2.5 million, Townsville City Council Sport, Recreation and Parks Committee Chair Pat Ernst has explained that a new-look facility would be likely to retain its popular giant bucket feature and that the project would include landscaping and new amenities such as seating, shade, bike racks and bins.

The redeveloped attraction might also include a lagoon feature popular in many North Queensland cities.

Councillor Ernst told the Townsville Bulletin “we are keen to hear what people enjoy most about the current park, their views on the facilities and safety."

Construction of the features has been scheduled for mid-2016 during the winter months to ensure the least disruption for users.
