read moreA Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Regional Showcase has highlighted tourism infrastructure and product developments in Cairns and on the Great Barrier Reef.
Presented to tourism buyers in Sydney and Melbourne, the 2016 Regional Showcase featured new event spaces including Hemingway’s Brewery at the Port Douglas Reef Marina (pictured) and the Australian Armour and Artillery Museum next to Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Tjapukai.
Introducing the developments TTNQ Director of Business and Tourism Events Rosie Douglas stated “the level of investment in the region impressed participants who were delighted at the choice of new and upgraded offsite venues for their events.
“In the city heart (of Cairns) we will have a new arts precinct with an outdoor performance space and the Cairns Performing Arts centre under construction, Ochre Restaurant is moving to a waterfront location and work is well advanced on the $50 million Cairns Aquarium which will include an event centre.
“The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort has completed a $40 million upgrade including renovations to the 294 guest rooms, new suites and swim out rooms, plus the redevelopment of the Country Club, the resort’s main buildings, surrounding pools and landscaping.”
As part of the Showcase, the Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Business Events team was joined by 16 Tourism Tropical North Queensland members who are key stakeholders in the business events industry.
