read moreThe potential, and limitations, of the fast growing adventure tourism market in Asia is to be explored at the PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2018 (ATRTCM).
With a global market valued at US$7.88 trillion in 2015, it is estimated that adventure tourism's compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will reach 46% by 2020. (Sandler Research, ‘Global Adventure Tourism Market 2016-2020’).
However, with this growth comes implications for residents, the environment and governments as well as the danger of ‘overtourism’.
Being staged at Aloft Al Ain, United Arab Emirates form 21st to 23rd February, the three-day ATRTCM event comprises of a one-day travel trade mart and one-day conference, along with other value-added activities that facilitate networking and relationship building.
Organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, ATRTCM is the is Asia Pacific’s leading travel trade event dedicated to the adventure tourism industry.
Its one-day travel trade mart will bring together product buyers and sellers from across the world including state, regional and local tourism agencies from established and emerging markets, unique accommodation providers and tour operators.
Its one-day conference will explore the nuances, trends and dynamics of one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors with a program bringing together international experts at the forefront of the adventure tourism industry from both private and public sectors to discuss the sector’s issues and opportunities.
With past ATRTCM events held in Thimphu, Bhutan; Chiang Rai, Thailand; and Luoyang, China, the event’s choice of host destination reflects the growing importance of dispersing tourists to emerging destinations.
PATA has also announced that the PATA Destination Marketing Forum 2018 (PDMF 2018) will be held in Khon Kaen, Thailand from 28th to 30th November.
The event, formerly known as the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum, will be held under the theme ‘Growth with Goals’ and is generously hosted by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
