Universal Studios Japan welcomes 10.5 million visitors in last financial year

Universal Studios Japan welcomes 10.5 million visitors in last financial year
April 21, 2014

The number of visitors to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka in fiscal 2013 was roughly 10.5 million, up 7.7% from the previous year and the second-highest figure since the movie theme park's first year of operations in 2001.

The popularity of The Ride, a new backward-moving rollercoaster, which opened in March last year and a family area featuring the characters Snoopy and Hello Kitty contributed to the high number.

According to the operator, USJ Co., Ltd, visitor numbers are expected to remain favourable even a 3% rise in Japan’s consumption tax from 1st April, the start of the 2014/15 fiscal year.

USJ Co. Ltd. hopes to draw more visitors with a new area based on the Harry Potter film series scheduled to open in the second half of this year.

Consistently ranked among the top 10 most visited theme parks in the world, Universal Studios Japan is one of four Universal Studios theme parks, owned and operated by USJ Co., Ltd. with a license from NBC Universal.
