UNSW seeks new fitness and aquatic centre management partner

UNSW seeks new fitness and aquatic centre management partner
November 13, 2020

The University of NSW is seeking a new management partner for the UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre following the agreement to terminate the YMCA's management contract.

A statement from UNSW Sydney has advised "after seven years serving the UNSW community, the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has made The Y (YMCA) NSW's continued operation of the on-campus pool and gym facilities unviable.

"(As a result) the University and YMCA have mutually agreed to terminate the contract for the UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre.

"We thank The Y NSW for their management over the past seven years."

With the facility currently closed, all fees have been stopped and current memberships are being cancelled, with UNSW Sydney advising "memberships will not automatically transfer to the new operator."

Where customers have paid in advance for a membership or service that was not able to be delivered, YMCA will contact customers to organise the applicable refund.

UNSW Sydney go on to advise "we understand this closure has caused inconvenience to the University’s students, staff and the local community. UNSW values the important fitness and leisure amenity that the facility provides and is committed to finding a new management partner as a matter of priority.

"The University looks forward to reopening the facility in the near future with a new operator for the UNSW community to enjoy these facilities once again."

Enquiries relating to the facility should be emailed to: vpfo@unsw.edu.au.
