read moreSecurity at the Mount Isa Family Fun Park is to be enhanced as a result of repeated acts of vandalism.
The most recent act of destruction has again shade structures above the park’s splashpad and play equipment being damages, with the sails now having been removed for repair, depriving visitors of shade.
Queensland Police are reviewing footage from the two CCTV cameras.
Blaming youth for the vandalism, Mt Isa Mayor Tony McGrady told local media “footage will be closely looked at and if we can find enough evidence to catch the perpetrators, then they will be dealt with by the law.
“We as a community will be expecting the judiciary to show an example and throw the book at them regardless of age.
“I am not alone in saying that I am sick of seeing this mindless vandalism occur throughout out city and it seems to be an issue which is ongoing.
“Whether we revisit the idea of curfews, stricter parenting, and tighter control of the wayward youth of the city – something needs to be done.”
Mayor McGrady said that additional Queensland Government funding for CCTV cameras would see additional cameras placed at the park in coming months.
The Mount Isa Family Fun Park is the largest all abilities playground in Queensland.
Opened in 2009, the $4.25 million facility includes a splashpad/water spray ground along with a junior play area with challenging installations and play equipment, a sensory garden, a Double Flying Fox, a permanent outdoor stage and BBQ facilities.
