VenuesWest and Basketball WA to co-manage premier facility

VenuesWest and Basketball WA to co-manage premier facility
September 30, 2014

VenuesWest Chairman Graham Partridge OAM and Basketball WA Chairman Keith Dunlap are pleased to announce Basketball WA and VenuesWest will manage the WA Basketball Centre together commencing 1st October 2014.

Announcing the partnership, Partridge explained “we believe the new co-management agreement structure for the WA Basketball Centre will be in the best interest for the sport, the players, customers and the state of the art basketball facility.

“By taking advantage of our respective strengths we will establish a long term co-operative relationship that meets the needs of both parties ensuring the long term sustainability of basketball in WA.”

“This agreement will also establish a sound financial base for the facility, allowing it to continue its success in delivering great customer experiences for many years to come.

Basketball WA Chairman Keith Dunlap added “this is the culmination of many years of hard work by a number of people to ensure a sustainable operating model for Basketball WA from the WA Basketball Centre.

"We are looking forward to assuming the day to day operations of the Centre and working in partnership with VenuesWest to deliver outstanding customer service to both the basketball family and the community as a whole.”

As part of the agreement, Basketball WA will be the primary user at the Centre with scope for other targeted sports, events and competitions to have access to the venue through the co-management structure.

All court sport bookings will be done through Basketball WA and VenuesWest will be responsible for other events where high volume crowds are expected.  VenuesWest will continue to maintain the facility.

Under the Co-Management agreement both parties will be responsible for ensuring the operations of the facility are implemented in accordance with the WA State Government’s expectations.

The WA Basketball Centre, which was opened in 2010, is WA's state of the art basketball training facility and cost approximately $40 million to build.

The Centre includes:

• Two show courts
• Six competition courts
• 11 metre high ceilings
• Floors in competition area marked for Netball, Badminton, Basketball and Volleyball
• Six change room areas and 48 toilets
• Seating for 2,000 in show court arena
• Seating for 600 on competition courts
• Spectator viewing areas from first floor foyer

Partridge added “it is our priority to ensure Western Australia’s premier Basketball venue continues to deliver quality sporting events and provide great customer experiences for all patrons."
