Victoria Tourism Industry Council to celebrate business excellence at 2017 RACV Awards

Victoria Tourism Industry Council to celebrate business excellence at 2017 RACV Awards
October 24, 2017

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) is in full swing in the lead up to the 2017 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards on Thursday 23rd November, the tourism and events industry’s big night of the year.

Being held at The Palladium, Crown, the 33rd Awards recognise achievement in an industry that currently employs 210,000 people and generates $23.3 billion per year for the Victorian economy. Victoria Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Brad Ostermeyer said the awards program gives operators the opportunity to evaluate their level of expertise and service, pushing for exceptional standards year on year.

Ostermeyer stated “each year, tourism operators can push to try and reach the next level of achievement or, if they are already winning awards and accolades, retaining them. These awards help build a reputation of excellence that is very important in this industry.”

First-time entrant in 2016, Sonia Anthony of Masons of Bendigo, took out Gold for Tourism Restaurants and Catering at both the Victorian and Australian Tourism Awards.

Looking back on her Award, Anthony comments “the Tourism Awards have been a fabulous opportunity to showcase our business on a national level and to appreciate that our tourism offerings are of a gold standard.

“I would definitely recommend investing the time to enter these awards; our business and region have been showcased on platforms that would not be possible otherwise.”

An independent expert judging panel of 31 industry leaders from a diverse range of sectors across the state are currently reviewing 126 submissions, which includes an online entry assessment and a site visit verification process.

Winners of the first 25 categories at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards automatically enter the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for the chance to be judged at a National level.

Victoria profiles excellence in two extra categories; Local Government for Tourism and Tourism and Education Training, which make a valuable contribution to the state’s visitor economy. A further three categories will recognise individuals for their personal contributions to the Victorian tourism industry.
