WaveHouse Sentosa celebrates its third anniversary

WaveHouse Sentosa celebrates its third anniversary
January 7, 2012

Singapore's WaveHouse Sentosa artificial surfing wave attraction is celebrating its third birthday today (Saturday 7th January 2012).

Opened at the end of 2008, Wave House Sentosa is the fourth and newest installation in an archipelago of Wave Houses that includes South Africa, California, and Chile.

A centrepiece among the adventure/experience-based attractions at Sentosa Island's Siloso Beach, WaveHouse Sentosa offers both a FlowBarrel® 'left' and a FlowRider® sheet wave attractions. The attraction also features a restaurant, bar and a surf-orientated retail and merchandise while also serving as a unique venue for music, entertainment and special events away from Singapore's hustle and bustle.

Set in an environment of beautiful beaches, tropical sun, palm trees, spectacular sunsets and azure water, in recent months WaveHouse Sentosa hosted the finals of the 2011 Asian FLOW Series for competitive flowboarders from across the Asia-Pacific region.

December saw the venue host its 'BYOB' (bring your own board) event which was a major success among competitors in various board sport disciplines.

The event started with an inaugural 5 kilometre 'SUP' (stand up paddle) Cruiser Race along the scenic beaches of Sentosa. Supported by Mana Mana Beach, this division was open to all ages and genders and saw the winner walking away with a carbon fiber paddle Starboard SUP.

Jackson English, one of the world's top paddleboarders was there to help coordinate the event, and stated "it was fantastic to see so many stand ups out on the water. Watching the enthusiasm of all the paddlers having such a great time is a good sign for the future of stand up paddling in Singapore."

Next up was a BMX competition was run by SSTBMX Distro. A ramp was set up for the strong community of BMX bikers from both Singapore and Malaysia.

Once the water was cleared of paddle boards the wake surfers took over. With local and international talent taking part in the first ever wake surf comp on Sentosa.

Next came the skate event had some tight competition with some of Singapore's top skaters before the Flowboarding and Bodyboarding competitions concluded the event began at the FlowBarrel®.

Today's birthday celebrations will be include a party along with performances by Dawn Ho, Alicia Pan, Jack & Rai, Kenneth Francis and The Muttons.
