read moreMindful of the challenges facing aquatic facilities and swim schools as they reopen after nearly two years of disruption, Royal Life Saving Society - Australia will this week be introducing a We Swim, a campaign to advocate to the community the importance of getting back to swimming, swim lessons and aquatics.
Being held from 11am to midday on Thursday 9th December 2021, Royal Life Saving is inviting all interested aquatic partners to attend an online briefing webinar briefing on the issues, the campaign and how to get involved.
Setting the scene for the campaign, Royal Life Saving explain “thousands of pools closed their doors, millions of lessons have been missed and some children may never return, joining the existing children who dropped out of swimming and water safety lessons too early. This threatens to have tragic consequences across the coming summer and beyond.
“Already almost half of the children leaving primary school can’t swim continuously for 50 metres or float for two minutes in deep water - a basic national swimming and water safety benchmark.
“While we know we need a medium to long-term strategy to close these gaps, in the short term, we need to advocate more broadly to the community the importance of getting back to swimming, swim lessons and aquatics.
“This is an opportunity to work together to share our collective love of swimming for all its benefits, focus attention on why we swim, and encourage families back to lessons, especially those most at-risk of missing out on a lifelong love of swimming.”
The webinar will feature:
