read moreThe Western Australian Government has announced that necessary preliminary on-ground investigations for a new entertainment and sporting precinct adjacent to Optus Stadium will commence in the coming weeks.
The investigations will include soil and ground water testing, which will support future design and delivery.
The Burswood Park entertainment and sporting precinct, a Labor commitment during the recent Western Australian election, will provide for major events and include a new outdoor amphitheatre with capacity for up to 20,000 people complementing existing entertainment venues and existing infrastructure nearby, including Optus Stadium.
Concept development will also consider facilities to support a range of sporting events including motor racing, cycling criterium and paralympic racing.
Outside of official events, the facilities would be available to the entire community year-round.
The consultation process will allow residents the opportunity to have their say on how the precinct is developed, what facilities they would like included and what further enhancements, landscaping and beautification opportunities may exist in the broader area.
The project will also consider improvements to connections and amenity between nearby residents and the new precinct/river front.
Western Australian Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti stated “our goal is to design a world-class precinct that can support incredible music, entertainment and sporting events, but is primarily an incredible community asset that everyone can enjoy.
"We committed to delivering a community asset open to everyone throughout the year, and that's why it's so important we get feedback from the community on the design, what facilities they'd like to see included and what broader landscaping and beautification opportunities exist in the area.
"We will soon be contacting community members on the ways in which they can provide input into the design."
