The West Australian Government is set to take BGC Construction to the Supreme Court over alleged building defects discovered at Perth’s HBF Park.

The dispute results is over claims that the developer has failed to fix problems in the eastern canopy and roof skylights, as well as glass elements at the venue,

In 2012, BGC Construction was awarded the $95 million contract to develop the venue, with the revamp including a covered two-tier eastern grandstand, as well as a new south stand, corporate boxes, a 250-seat barbeque terrace and a new playing surface.

The project was completed in 2013.

Formerly known as NIB Stadium, the stadium hosts the Western Force rugby union team and the A-League’s Perth Glory.

However, their playing schedules are unlikely to be affected with a spokesman for West Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray insisting that matches at the stadium itself will not be disrupted by legal action.

Shortly after the completion of the project, the Western Australian Opposition called for a Parliamentary inquiry into the contract.

The value of the damages being sought has not been disclosed.
