read moreThe Brisbane-based World Wide Swim School has partnered with Child Safeguard to provide the Aquatics Industry Child Safe Training.
Child Safeguard is an award-winning firm that helps organisations prevent harm to children and keep them safer, providing legal, training and audit advice to organisations to build a ChildSafe organisation and implement best practice in child safety.
The partnership will give swim schools access training tools, modules, and templates to ensure they implement best practices and comply with the 10 Child Safe Standards.
What are the Child Safe Standards?
Undertaken from 2013 to 2017, Australia’s Royal Commission inquiry into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse carried out case studies and public hearings into various organisations to examine how they responded to child abuse incidents.
One of the Royal Commission’s key recommendations was that all child-related organisations should implement the Child Safe Standards.
These standards are considered to be the 10 critical elements that are necessary to create a safer environment for children and young people.
World Wide Swim School advises that "swim schools in Australia should now be implementing the Child Safe Standards to ensure that they are complying with child protection legal reforms and that they are well prepared for upcoming Government regulation.”
Introduction to the Child Safe Standards
As a result of this partnership, World Wide Swim School is offering a free Child Safe Standards training module - designed for the aquatics industry - providing an overview of what operators need to know to become a Child Safe Swim School.
This customised training module is suitable for all Swim School staff, including managers, supervisors, team leaders, and swim teachers, and includes: an introduction to Child Safe Standards; background to Child Safe Standards and Royal Commission findings; why swim schools should implement the Child Safe Standards; and an overview of the Standards.
