Yas Island seeks to attract interest from growing Chinese tourism market

Yas Island seeks to attract interest from growing Chinese tourism market
September 2, 2013

Abu Dhabi attractions Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld have this week jointly hosted a special opening event to kick off the Emirate's Chinese Visitor Summit 2013.

Roofed under the largest existing Ferrari Logo, the delegates from China were introduced to the world's largest indoor and first Ferrari branded theme park while being introduced to the other world-class attractions Yas Island has to offer.

Marking its second year, the Chinese Visitor Summit 2013 is spearheaded by i2i Group China and Nicholas Publishing International, with strong backing from the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA). Dedicated to tapping into this fast growing market, ADTCA are committed to boosting Chinese presence, exposing the Chinese traveller to Abu Dhabi's fast growing tourism product offerings

Attended by a 75 strong delegation of media, business executives and event producers from wholesale, retail, sport, adventure and FIT operators, the delegates will be experiencing, and later sharing with a wider Chinese travel audience, Abu Dhabi's attractions including Yas Island, the region's prime leisure and entertainment destination.

Attracted primarily by the United Arab Emirate's wealth of tax-free shopping opportunities, as well as ease of access and entry, Abu Dhabi is well placed to meet the needs of Chinese tourists with its mix of culture and heritage, attractions, gastronomy, beaches, resorts and golf.

Explaining the showcasing of Yas Island's attractions, Destination Management Yas Island Vice President Karim El Guanaini explained "boasting the only Emirati themed waterpark, Yas Waterworld, sensational sea views on our world renowned golf course, Yas Links, the languid leisure of Yas Beach and the highly anticipated Yas Mall, needless to say we tick a lot of the boxes!"

With a schedule of events planned for the Chinese delegation, guests visiting Yas Island are anticipated to take a daring ride on the world's fastest rollercoaster at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi followed by a bird's eye view as they soar above Yas Island on a Seawings plane, Yas Island's resident seaplane.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld General Manager Mike Oswald adds "Chinese travelers appreciate novel experiences and Yas Island's entertainment offering with its winning formula definitely delivers an impact.

"Both Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld offer truly unique experiences; the first immerses visitors in the passionate and thrilling world of Ferrari and the second takes them on the ultimate water adventure in a pearl diving inspired waterpark.

"(These are) two sensational stories delivered through world class rides, slides and attractions which we are certain will capture the hearts and minds of Chinese travelers."

With Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi's first super-regional mall, set to open in March 2014, Guanaini concludes "in line with the anticipation of our soon to be launched new retail offerings, Yas Mall the Chinese Visitor Summit 2013 is a great opportunity for us to strengthen our relationship with the remarkably exponential Chinese market.

"Providing a platform for us to come face to face with influential trade buyers, enabling us to present them with a complete and up-to-date guide on UAE's entire offering."

The attractions of Yas Island were featured in the cover story of the July/August 2013 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
