YMCA NSW has announced a new partnership with Health Team Australia (HTA) to deliver additional specialised health intervention services in its centres and communities throughout NSW and the ACT.

Rolling out from November, the partnership will see the introduction of allied health professionals, specialised testing, and innovative health solutions to provide people with greater access to quality health and preventative care. The partnership mission is to provide inclusivity through tailored services, preventative health solutions and positively impact on the burden of chronic disease within our communities, a major issue facing Australians and our healthcare system.

A 2015 Deloitte report into the value of Exercise Physiologists in Australia found that almost 50% of Australians have some form of chronic disease, with as many as 13 million Australians being at risk of developing one.

The study looked at cost savings per patient across a number of chronic disease categories – it’s estimated a person with Type 2 Diabetes receiving treatment from an accredited Exercise Physiologist would save the healthcare system $5,107 per annum; $1,977 for someone with prediabetes and $2,239 for someone with a mental health condition – not to mention improving the lives of those treated.

Introducing the new partnership, YMCA NSW Chief Executive Leisa Hart stated “YMCA NSW is delighted to partner with Health Team Australia to provide Exercise Physiology services to our members in a community-based setting.

“It’s our hope that we will further improve the wellbeing of everyone who walks into our centres and in addition do our bit in preventative care.

“I have no doubt this initiative will impact positively on the health of local communities and it’s yet another reason to join your local Y.”
