YMCA Victoria has advised that Jo Hansen, its Manager of Learning and Development, has been endorsed as a board member of Aquatics and Recreation (ARV).

Hansen, one of two women who sit on the six member board of Victoria’s peak body for the aquatics and recreation industry, has also been Convenor of ARV’s Learning and Development Standing Committee.

With more than 20 years’ experience with the largest recreation employer in Victoria, Hansen is currently responsible for the professional development of more than 400 managers at YMCA Victoria. From middle managers to senior executives, she is accountable for staff training and capacity-building, as well as talent identification and succession-planning in metropolitan, rural and regional settings.

Hansen (pictured) said her own career progression, starting as a customer service officer then moving to increasingly senior management roles, has reinforced her belief that comprehensive professional development was the key to attracting and retaining the best talent in the industry.

She explained “with my appointment to the ARV Board, I’m excited to see how we can change the way people come together to share experiences and learn off each other, in our complex, ever-changing industry.

“I see the potential for ARV to invigorate our entire sector’s approach to building a robust, capable and sustainable workforce, and I hope to lead the change in how we train and develop our professionals.”
