Blacktown celebrates 50 years of cherished Mount Druitt Swimming Centre

Blacktown celebrates 50 years of cherished Mount Druitt Swimming Centre
March 28, 2025

Blacktown City Council representatives have joined with the local community to celebrate Mount Druitt Swimming Centre’s 50th anniversary.

The event, held last weekend, saw visitors being granted free entry and the Council providing inflatable waterslides, a DJ, games and a pool-shaped birthday cake for the half century party on Saturday.

Explaining that the love for the Centre was overwhelming, Blacktown City Mayor, Brad Bunting stated “Mount Druitt Swimming Centre has been a part of so many people’s lives - whether it has been cooling down on a summer’s day, a swimming carnival, the Blacktown City Family Fish In or Dive in Movie night.

“Council is dedicated to maintaining Mount Druitt Swimming Centre and keeping our community  active.

“I hope to have news soon on ensuring the centre thrives for another 50 years and beyond.”

State Member for Mount Druitt, Edmond Atalla said the swimming centre had been at the heart of our community for half a century, adding "it is a community place for fun, fitness, and friendships.

“This 50 year anniversary is a testament to its lasting impact.”

Built by the NSW Government’s State Planning Authority, the venue opened in 1975 and has been managed and maintained by Blacktown City Council over the past half century.

The Centre is open seasonally and welcomes more than 40,000 visitors each year. It will be closed for winter from 31st March and reopen in late September.
