read moreGold Coast theme park Dreamworld has announced the official grand opening date of Wednesday 15th December for its new Steel Taipan rollercoaster, coinciding with its 40th birthday.
Dreamworld’s biggest ever investment in a single attraction, costing $32 million and creating over 200 Queensland jobs throughout its construction, the opening - which will feature a range of additional entertainment, giveaways and fun for team members and guests - has been described as the best birthday present in the park’s history.
Stating that the timing of Steel Taipan’s opening couldn’t be better, Dreamworld Chief Executive, Greg Yong commented “we couldn’t think of a better gift for our 40th birthday than the opening of the biggest new attraction in Dreamworld’s history, offering a new, world-class thrill experience during the school holidays, and just in time for the border re-opening.
“Steel Taipan is a truly fantastic addition to our attraction offering, featuring the Southern Hemisphere’s first triple launch system and the world’s first spinning rear seats. You’ve got to feel it to believe it, so we encourage our locals to visit from the 15th to see what all the hype is about.”
Following a challenging 2020, Dreamworld remained optimistic, committed to delivering this ride experience to guests by the end of 2021. Steel Taipan is likely the largest private sector tourism attraction investment since the pandemic began, and Dreamworld is proud of the contribution it will have not only to Dreamworld’s recovery, but also to the South East Queensland economy.
