read moreThe 12-team playing field for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney has been confirmed following the completion of four World Cup Qualifying Tournaments that took place across the world over the last five days.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will be held from Thursday 22nd September to Saturday 1st October 2022 at Sydney Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia. The international event is supported by the NSW Government through tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and the Office of Sport.

NSW Minister for Tourism and Sport Stuart Ayres congratulated the 12 teams who have secured their ticket to Sydney and added “Sydney has a global reputation for hosting international sporting events of the highest calibre, so I congratulate the squads of these 12 nations who are about to experience competing at a World Cup in one of the world’s truly great sporting cities.
“The NSW Government has worked closely with FIBA to bring the 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup to Sydney through our 10 World Cups in 10 Years initiative. We are committed to delivering world-class sporting events like this to achieve our goal of making NSW the premier visitor economy of the Asia Pacific.”
The four FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments tipped off in Osaka, Washington DC, and Belgrade on 10th February, with five days of on-court action and some incredibly close games. While both teams participated in the tournaments, the USA automatically qualified as Tokyo Olympics gold medalists, while Australia received automatic qualification as hosts of the event.
The draw for the Women’s Basketball World Cup will take place in Sydney on Thursday, 3rd March 2022.
The 12 qualified teams will be divided into two groups of six teams each. The Group Phase will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing the other teams in the group once. The teams placed in the first four in each group advance directly to the Quarter-Finals.
