Key components of the tournament’s fan engagement program include a national Roadshow of activations in the lead up to the event in key metropolitan and regional locations across Australia, and the creation of a Fan Zone at Sydney Olympic Park to provide an exciting and enjoyable ‘off-the-court’ event experience for fans attending the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Michael Leeds, Managing Director of Twenty3 Sport + Entertainment advised “we are delighted to partner with the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Local Organising Committee to bring the world’s flagship women’s basketball tournament to new heights amongst Australian fans through highly engaging content and physical initiatives.
“This event continues the momentum and growth of women’s sport in both Australia and indeed globally. As the world continues to navigate the global pandemic, we think the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney will be a welcomed distraction from Covid and embraced by not only the Australian basketball community, but by all Australians who are renowned for their love of a sporting contest.”
Melissa King, Chief Executive of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Local Organising Committee adds “Twenty3’s event credentials across both international and major domestic events hosted in Australia were impressive, as was their activation plan for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.
“Part of our mission is to create a bold and engaging World Cup and Twenty3’s proposal gave us scalable activation elements to create an amazing experience tailored to the locations we hope to visit around the country. The plan also incorporated marketing and promotional elements that will assist in creating awareness for the event and help us connect with the grassroots basketball community and more broadly with people wishing to be a part of this mega event.
“We will be working in unison with the team at Twenty3 to ensure we create an engaging and dynamic experience for both local and international fans who attend the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Sydney this September.”
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Local Organising Committee and Twenty3 Sport + Entertainment have devised a national calendar of Roadshow events. The first activation took place over the weekend at the Sydney Uni Flames and Sydney Kings double-header at the Sydney Superdome in Sydney Olympic Park. The next activation will return to the same venue on Sunday 6th February, prior to another action-packed Flames and Kings double-header.
The Roadshow will then travel interstate to reach new audiences, before returning to Sydney Olympic Park again for the main event.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will see 12 powerhouse basketball nations take to Sydney, Australia to compete for the World title. Sydney Olympic Park will host 144 players, 12 teams and 38 games across 10 days of action from 22nd September – 1st October 2022.
