read moreSport and fitness programs, festivals, splash parties and disco nights are among the offerings for Northern Territory youth these school holidays with events commencing Friday 23rd June 2023.
With over 450 school holiday events taking place in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Alice Springs, the Barkly and East Arnhem regions, it’s a full calendar of events for young people and their families.
The Northern Territory Government has invested more than $2 million to provide a great range of exciting and entertaining events with loads of free activities available ensuring Territory students are entertained and engaged during the mid-year school break.
Darwin will have more than 70 events and activities including a Surf and Sail program at Lake Alexander, fun activities at the Leanyer Recreation Park, workshops including Café Skills with Launch Darwin, and Darwin Theatre Company’s CemeNTworx theatre group.
Palmerston will have over 100 events and activities including youth drop-in activities and workshops. The week-long Palmerston Youth Festival kicks off from 8th July with a program of arts, culture, sports and music and is sure to attract hundreds of young people in the Palmerston and Greater Darwin area.
In Katherine, 75 activities will be delivered for all ages to enjoy including skateboarding, bike maintenance and repairs, 3x3 basketball, art and craft workshops, laser tag, boot camp, youth disco, fishing cruise, golf, movies, a youth street party and much more.
Alice Springs has over 120 activities in the holiday program including movie nights, the Phoney Film Festival, giant games, drone racing, STEM activities, a squash and fitness program, NAIDOC week family band night, youth sports, hip hop workshops, skateboarding and activities at The GAP and Brown Street Youth Centres.
The Barkly region has over 46 activities planned for the school holidays including skateboarding, soccer clinics, cooking, arts and craft lessons.
Finally, the East Arnhem region will host more than 38 activities across Nhulunbuy and other communities in the Gove Peninsula and surrounding homelands including NAIDOC Day celebrations, DJ workshops, discos, skateboarding and beach weaving. The East Arnhem Regional Council will also host activities through its Youth Sport and Recreation program.
Most events are free with NT Sports Vouchers accepted for some activities.
