The event will highlight the state’s top regional swimmers as they compete for a place at the prestigious NSW Country Championships in February.
Advising that the Championships are a celebration of athletic excellence and community spirit, Swimming NSW Chief Executive, Kirsten Thomson stated “this is a fantastic opportunity for Griffith to host some of the best and brightest swimmers from regional NSW. It’s more than just a competition-it’s a chance for the community to rally behind these athletes and celebrate the hard work they’ve put into their sport.”
Adding cultural significance to the event, the Swimming NSW medals and event signage will feature Indigenous artwork created by celebrated artist Uncle Rex Winston, paying homage to the deep connection between sport, culture, and the land’s Traditional Custodians.
Lauren Catanzariti, President of Griffith Swimming Club, expressed her excitement about the upcoming Championships, commenting “we are incredibly proud to host this prestigious event here in Griffith. It’s a wonderful chance for our community to come together, cheer on the athletes, and showcase our town’s warm hospitality.”
Griffith Mayor Doug Curran highlighted the importance of the event for the region, adding “the Country Regional Swimming Championships bring visitors from all over the state to Griffith, and we’re thrilled to welcome them.
“This is a great opportunity for our local businesses, accommodation providers, and attractions to shine while showcasing our town’s vibrant spirit.”
Spectators are encouraged to attend and support the swimmers while enjoying a weekend of exciting competition and community connection. The event will also feature food stalls and seating areas, ensuring a great experience for families and fans alike.
