ICC Sydney strengthens commitment to social impact

ICC Sydney strengthens commitment to social impact
October 28, 2023

In a demonstration of its commitment to philanthropy and social impact, International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, has recognised its charity clients at its inaugural appreciation luncheon.

Held this week, the event follows a bumper year for ICC Sydney where charity and not for profit organisations declared at least $7.1 million in funds raised through events hosted at the venue for a diversity of worthy causes.

ICC Sydney has consistently demonstrated its commitment and capacity to drive positive benefits to the community through a robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, including its pioneering, multi-streamed client Legacy Program, all informed by the ASM Global ACTS framework, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and relevant global, national and local strategic policies and legislation.

Advising that the venue strives to unlock the potential of the world class events it hosts to leave a lasting social legacy, ICC Sydney Chief Executive and Group Director - Convention Centres, ASM Global (APAC), Geoff Donaghy explains “making a difference is core to our mission. By running extraordinary events, we have an opportunity and an obligation to support our clients to also reach their social contribution goals.

“As a critical piece of our state’s economic infrastructure, ICC Sydney creates employment and value through the events we host and throughout our long supply chain. But equally important, ICC Sydney is committed to creating a positive impact in our community, fulfilling our role as a powerful piece of social infrastructure.”

ICC Sydney’s Legacy Program is part of its suite of corporate social responsibility resources that supports corporate, association, government, charity and not for profit event organisers to leave a lasting environmental and social legacy long after the conclusion of an event.

ICC Sydney’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, Samantha Glass said the venue’s industry leading Legacy Program had the potential to help organisers to deepen their efforts to make a difference through their events.

Glass noted “our strong sense of purpose is reflected in ICC Sydney’s Legacy Program. Through the program we support our clients to tackle the world’s biggest challenges, build capacity within our communities, create new opportunities for emerging talent to thrive alongside working towards net zero carbon emission goals.

“We are proud to share that the Legacy Program has gone from strength to strength over the last year, with 115 activations recorded across our 500 events of which 68% engaged First Nations businesses or cultural engagement activities.

“Through the program organisers can connect with local creative talent - such as Talent Development Project or Bankstown Poetry Slam artists, innovators and entrepreneurs in Sydney’s thriving tech and startup ecosystem, receive support to reduce their carbon footprint, and create an environment that welcomes all using our Accessible and Inclusive Events Guide,” Ms Glass said.
