As reported by the Global Times, construction on the museum, located in the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, started in August 2019.
The museum, covering an area of 7,179 metres2 has seven exhibition areas, including “Discovering Giant Pandas,” “Pandas in Danger” and “Giant Panda Conservation,” for visitors to improve their understanding of these rare animals and increase environmental protection awareness.
Surrounded by large walls of touch-sensitive screens and meticulously-designed settings, the Chengdu Giant Panda Museum provides an immersive experience while demonstrating various interesting facts about the precious species as well as its history, habits and China’s panda preservation efforts.
Visitors can access various information pertaining to giant pandas by tapping on the screen, guided by an animated panda.
Scenarios reproducing pre-historic environments where giant pandas first emerged are also part of the presentation.
Entry to the museum is free of charge, but visitor numbers will be limited to 450 at any one time due to COVID-19 restrictions.
