read moreIXOM has strengthened its commitment to water safety in remote communities in Western Australia’s Pilbara by formalising a long-standing sponsorship agreement with Royal Life Saving WA.
Under this agreement, IXOM provides cost saving initiatives at eight community pools across the Pilbara region - an arrangement that has been in place for over 15 years and was officially formalised in May 2024.
This sponsorship, valued at $33,954 for 2024, helps ensure these vital community pools remain operational.
Since 2010, IXOM’s support has contributed to an estimated $302,366.66 in cost savings for Royal Life Saving WA, allowing more funds to be directed towards essential swimming and water safety programs.
Royal Life Saving WA advise that “these programs are crucial in remote areas, providing children with the opportunity to learn lifesaving water skills while enjoying time with their friends.
“The community pools benefiting from this sponsorship are located in some of Western Australia’s most isolated areas, where access to swimming facilities is limited.”
Community pools covered under the sponsorship agreement are located in Balgo, Bidyadanga, Burringurrah, Fitzroy Crossing, Jigalong , Kalumburu, Warmun and Yandeyarra.
Royal Life Saving WA’s Remote Pools provide more than just a place to swim- they deliver vital water safety education to help prevent drowning in Western Australia’ most vulnerable communities.
Research shows that Aboriginal people in Western Australia are 2.5 times more likely to be involved in a drowning incident than non-Aboriginal people.
Alarmingly, people in regional WA are also 1.7 times more likely to be involved in a drowning incident. This was greater for fatal drowning incidents where people were 5.7 times more likely to die from drowning in regional Western Australia. The Kimberley, Pilbara, and Midwest regions have recorded the highest drowning rates in recent years.
Royal Life Saving WA is dedicated to fostering community development and preventing drowning in regional and remote areas. Through initiatives like Swim for Fruit, swimming and lifesaving carnivals, Talent Pool and Keep Watch, the organisation provides swimming lessons, water safety education, and leadership opportunities for Indigenous youth.
IXOM distributes Algae Shield, a one-step solution for the control of algae, slime, blackspot and unwanted wall growth in commercial pools.
