read moreWith the aim of being Australia’s leading provider of sport and entertainment venues and precincts, VenuesWest has released its Strategic Plan 2022-2027: Vibrant precincts connecting people to world class sport and entertainment experiences.
Setting out VenuesWest’s vision over the next five years, the strategy sets out the ambitions of the statutory authority, which owns and manages 13 sport and entertainment venues on behalf of the Western Australia Government, including Perth’s RAC Arena and Optus Stadium.
Supported by a refreshed purpose “to support high performance sport and deliver world class athletes”, a media release introducing the strategy advises “the vision will ensure that Western Australians continue to experience iconic sporting and entertainment events in evolving world class precincts and is welcomed as the state sees the return of national and international event business after two challenging years.
“Supporting high performance sport is VenuesWest’s core activity, achieved by enabling current and future Western Australian elite athletes to train and compete in their home state.”
Launched at a recent stakeholder function at Optus Stadium and attended by around 70 of Western Australia’s key figures in the sport and entertainment industries, VenuesWest Chief Executive, David Etherton commented on LinkedIn “I'm proud of the bold and aspirational vision that sets the direction of our Strategic Plan 2022-2027; to be Australia's leading provider of sport and entertainment venues and precincts.”
Welcoming the strategy, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister, David Templeman stated "Western Australian athletes performed exceptionally well at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and VenuesWest’s commitment to supporting high performance sport will ensure our athletes have the best chance leading up to the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games."
Athletes are supported via investment in facilities to meet national and international competition compliance, prioritisation and subsidisation of training and competition activities, provision of pathways to international competition and the Brand Ambassador program.
Advising that Strategic Plan also defines the path for continued commercial success, enabling direct reinvestment across the portfolio of venues and ongoing subsidisation of high performance sport, Etherton added "VenuesWest has hosted some of the most iconic events in Western Australia's history, and the success of these events helps support our athletes to train and compete in Western Australia."
