Saatchi Art's touring event which takes place in North Melbournes’s Meat Market from 26th to 29th May, will deliver a hybrid presentation showcasing works from over 100 contemporary artists, with the supporting program covering everything from live tattooing to virtual reality experiences.
According to Art Fair Director, Luke Potkin the response to the Art Fair has already been overwhelmingly positive.
“I’d like to give a massive shoutout to Melburnians for backing our art scene after a difficult two years,” said Potkin.
“The arts are the lifeblood of any nation’s society and Australia is no different. We need creatives who present new ways of thinking in different genres.”
Edi Radko from Fantastic Framing in Melbourne, which is partnering with the fair, agrees and says Australians love their arts and culture adding “for me, Australian artists are among the best in the world. Every piece of work I see is captivating and challenges me to think differently.”
Sarrita King is exhibiting her mixed media pieces, including metal sculptures and rugs among other works. The 34-year-old Gurindji woman, who lives in Darwin and is the daughter of renowned Indigenous artist William King, says she is hoping Fair attendees “engage” with her diverse range of works.
The Melbourne Other Art Fair 2022 will act as a prelude to the pandemic-postponed RISING festival. Offering a surge of art, music, performance and ceremony in the heart of Melbourne, RISING will electrify the city from 1st to12th June 2022.
Hannah Fox and Gideon Obarzanek are RISING’s co-Artistic Directors, and lead a diverse team of national and international arts professionals in programming the festival.
