More social sports wanted for Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre

More social sports wanted for Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre
November 7, 2024

Through an Expression of Interest process, the City of Fremantle is looking to add more social sports to its offerings at Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre.

The venue, located on the corner of Ellen and Parry Streets, was established in 2020 through the collaboration of three historic clubs: the Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club, Fremantle Bowling Club, and Fremantle Workers Social & Leisure Club.

Council is keen to see what comes back through the EOI process, but social sports such as mixed netball, 3-on-3 basketball, futsal, yoga, dance or padel tennis are a few examples of what Council is looking for.

EOIs may come from sporting clubs, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and/or commercial operators.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge shared "together, Fremantle Park management and the City of Fremantle are exploring innovative ways to maximise the use of this premier community facility, while enhancing community engagement and financial sustainability."

Expressions of interest are being sought across two key categories: General Hire and/or New Proposals.

General Hire proposals may involve the regular hire of spaces, like courts or rooms, for sports, courses, meetings or other events.

New Proposals may include minor or significant modifications of existing infrastructure or even to use existing vacant land on the site.

Mayor Fitzhardinge added "social sports are fun ways to improve fitness, make new friends and learn new skills.

"They are for everyone with any level of sporting ability and bring people together in a friendly environment. You might participate with your neighbours, housemates or even work colleagues."

Existing member benefits will be maintained through this process, with the aim of providing equitable access for all users.

Expressions of interest are to be submitted via fremantle.wa.gov.au/council/expressions-interest by 4pm Friday 13th December 2024.
