read moreStadiums Queensland has advised that it has appointed Cameron Jones as the new Venue General Manager at Townsville's Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Jones, who moves from the role of Director - Venues at the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, previously oversaw nine venues across Queensland, including the Townsville Sports Precinct, Queensland Recreation Centres, Toowoomba Sports Ground and Brisbane Sports Houses and has experience delivering NRL events, having hosted the NRL at Toowoomba Sports Ground (including one with six days’ notice during the pandemic).
Looking forward to his new role, Jones explains “I feel really excited and privileged to lead Queensland Country Bank Stadium and the team into the next phase.
“It’s the biggest change in life for both my wife and myself, however, my approach is to choose courage over comfort and I’m looking forward to working with our key industry partners to bring more world class events to the venue.”
Speaking about the appointment, Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive, Todd Harris commented “Queensland Country Bank Stadium has delivered some amazing experiences in recent years, including the NRL AllStars, the first regional State of Origin, the last two years of Women’s State of Origin and most recently the P!NK concerts, and I’m confident Cameron will continue to build on that success, with great industry experience and local knowledge.
“He will bring a unique perspective to the role given the experience and knowledge he’s gained through the delivery of a diverse range of events, from NRL games in Toowoomba to Turf Games at the Gold Coast and I think he’ll be a great asset to our team.”
Jones, who has family ties back to the Sydney suburb of Balmain, desctibes himself as “long suffering” West Tigers supporter. However, as a Queenslander, he has a soft spot for the Cowboys.
Current venue manager Tom Kimball will remain with the team until the end of the NRL season.
