North Queensland’s CaPTA Group Honours Exceptional Staff at annual Awards

North Queensland’s CaPTA Group Honours Exceptional Staff at annual Awards
May 24, 2023

Cairns-based tourism operator The CaPTA Group has celebrated the outstanding achievements of its employees with the announcement of the winner at their annual Excellence Awards on Friday 19th May.

Director of Sales & Marketing Ben Woodward said the date of evening was of great significance to the Woodward family, being on the six year anniversary of the passing of his father, CaPTA founder and tourism industry pioneer, Charles Woodward, advising “Dad always loved these awards as a fantastic celebration of CaPTA’s great ‘extended family’, and even though we have a lot of new staff who he never met, his presence was felt amongst us all."

The Woodward family expressed their appreciation for their staff's unwavering commitment and exceptional contributions, which have been instrumental in establishing CaPTA's position as a leading force in the industry.

The pinnacle of the evening was the announcement of this year's CaPTA Excellence Awards winner and recognising exceptional individuals who have consistently gone above and beyond in their roles.

Guest judge Stephanie Campbell, General Manager at The Cairns Post, brought her expertise and insight to the selection process, with interviews conducted with each finalist alongside company founder Pip Woodward and Managing Director Peter Woodward.

An envelope containing each judge’s top three was opened and the votes were tallied, with Cristy Pointing, CaPTA’s People and Culture Manager, then announced as the overall winner.

Noting that Pointing was a very deserving winner, having worked in the company’s HR department for nearly 13 years, and having been a finalist several times in the past, Peter Woodward noted “Cristy has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and a deep commitment to fostering a positive work environment within our organisation.

“Her unwavering commitment, remarkable leadership, and exceptional contributions have left an indelible mark on the organisation and its employees.”

Other winners included:

Training Award
Renee Miles, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas

Social Media Champion
Angel Pesut, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas

Bright Idea Award
Chloe Schafer, Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome

This year's CaPTA Excellence Awards once again showcased the tremendous talent within the group, highlighting the dedication and adaptability of the staff.

Ben Woodward said the evening was an opportunity for the extended CaPTA family to get together and have fun after the past few difficult years for the tourism industry.

The CaPTA Excellence Awards serve as a testament to the organisation's core values and commitment to excellence, leaving an indelible mark on the journey towards creating unforgettable experiences for visitors.

In its 17th year, the event at Shangri-La The Marina Cairns saw over 110 enthusiastic attendees cheering on their finalists from Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome, Rainforestation, Tropic Wings, Wildlife Habitat and CaPTA head office.

With a 1920s theme, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to connect with fellow colleagues over welcome drinks and canapés on the pool deck, before being seated for dinner to hear about the achievements of the finalists.
