Orange Council lifts swimming ban at Lake Canobolas

Orange Council lifts swimming ban at Lake Canobolas
April 23, 2025

Orange Council has lifted the temporary swimming ban at Lake Canobolas, 10 weeks after it began, following test results on levels of blue-green algae.

The decision to lift the ban came after the results of two consecutive weekly tests, showed the levels of blue-green algae in the lake to have dropped from the 'Red' alert level to 'Amber'.

The Amber level means swimming can happen again at Lake Canobolas.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto has thanked the community for their cooperation during the temporary swimming ban.

"Even though cooler weather has begun, I'm pleased people can be swimming and canoeing again during the second week of the school holidays," Mayor Mileto added.

"There's still been hundreds of people making the most of the school holidays by picnicking and bush-walking at the lake, and it's been good to see people have been staying out of the water."

"Council's water-testing team received the latest results of water test today."

Council staff will remove warning signs at the lake today.

According to Water NSW advice, water users should always consider the risks when entering any waterway in NSW, including the fact that these waters are untreated, and its quality is unknown. Conditions can change quickly, and water users enter waterways at their own risk.
