Dates secured for 2024 LIV Golf Adelaide as data shows $65 million input to local economy

Dates secured for 2024 LIV Golf Adelaide as data shows $65 million input to local economy
November 18, 2023

Dates for the second LIV Golf Adelaide have been locked in for 2024 with the tournament to be held at the Golf Adelaide Grange Golf Club from 26th to 28th April next year.

This week’s announcement of the dates coincided with the release of data revealing the inaugural event contributed $65 million to South Australia's economy.

The 2024 dates, part of a four-year agreement, was announced as independent analysis from YouGov showed the 2023 LIV Golf Adelaide event contributed $64.9 million to South Australia's economy and generated more than 43,000 visitor nights in Adelaide.

The analysis also reveals that of the 77,076 attendees across the three-day event, more than 40% were from out-of-state.

The record-breaking tournament was named World's Best Golf Event of the Year 2023 at the World Golf Awards last month.

One of 14 LIV Golf tournaments held globally in the 2023 season, the Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club featured some of the world's best talent, including Australian Cameron Smith and Americans Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.

The Adelaide tournament went viral when fans celebrated Chase Koepka's hole-in-one at the 12th hole - known as the Watering Hole.

These highlights were broadcast to a global household reach of more than 276 million across 69 territories, helping raise South Australia's profile on the world stage.

The economic return supports feedback from tourism operators who heralded the event a success thanks to the boost it brought to business - including Eos by SkyCity which was at 100% occupancy, and the Sofitel Adelaide which reported the LIV Golf tournament increased visitation from the high-yield interstate market.

  • $64.9 million in direct expenditure
  • 43,253 visitor nights in Adelaide
  • 77,076 attendees across the event
  • 41% of ticket purchasers from out-of-state
  • 37 countries represented by LIV Golf attendees
  • Broadcast global household reach of more than 276 million across 69 territories.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said the inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide was a "global success", noting "LIV Golf delivered for South Australia, filling hotel rooms, restaurants and pumping $65 million into our state's economy.

"With dates now set for 2024, I have no doubt there will be many excited fans from interstate and overseas booking their trip to South Australia.”

South Australian Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said it was "an incredible result for Australia's first LIV Golf tournament … not only did it provide a huge boost to our visitor economy and supported many local jobs, LIV Golf Adelaide made history with scenes broadcast around the world including in our key tourism markets.

"I am thrilled we have dates locked in the calendar for the 2024 tournament, with next year shaping up to be another blockbuster for major events in South Australia."

LIV Golf Commissioner and Chief Executive, Greg Norman added "the inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide showed the world how global audiences are embracing LIV Golf, which is breathing new life into the sport."

"It was the highlight tournament of our league's first official season and a historic demonstration of competition, entertainment and fanfare that golf fans deserve.

"South Australia knows how to put on a show, and we look forward to seeing The Grange Golf Club set yet another elevated benchmark for the league as we raise the bar even higher in 2024."
