SPASA named in AFR Fast 100 List for second successive year
December 4, 2024

SPASA (the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of Australia and New Zealand), owner of Australasian Leisure Management, has been included in the 2024 Australian Financial Review (AFR) Fast 100, securing the 89th spot on the annual list.

This marks the second time SPASA, a not-for-profit (NFP) association, has been recognised, solidifying its position as a driving force in Australasia’s aquatic and recreation industry, confirming its commitment to its mission: to protect, promote and grow the across Australia and New Zealand.

Acknowledging the recognition, SPASA Chief Executive Lindsay McGrath says the listing underscores the collective efforts of SPASA members and highlights the significant strides made since unifying the industry under one cohesive national body.

McGrath stated “this recognition isn’t just SPASA’s success - it’s the success of every member and the entire pool and spa community.

“It’s a testament to how far we’ve come together, fostering an association that champions growth, innovation, and a strong, united voice for the industry.”

This unification empowered SPASA to launch industry-leading initiatives that drive growth and innovation, including:

Pool Spa Life Expo and TV Show: Engaging and educating consumers about the pool and spa lifestyle.

Climate Care Certified: Setting a benchmark for sustainable pool and spa ownership.

Institute of Research and Learning (IRLearning): Offering nationally recognised qualifications and e-learning modules for industry professionals.

Master Pool Builders Program: Training and mentoring tradespeople to elevate industry standards.

Australasian Leisure Management: The acquisition of Australia and New Zealand’s only business media for the leisure industry.

SPASA has also achieved remarkable financial growth, with annual profits increasing from $350,000 to $8 million in just six years, all reinvested into advocacy, education, and sustainability programs.

Noting that this recognition by AFR celebrates SPASA’s ability to adapt, innovate, and thrive in a competitive environment while serving its members and the broader community, McGrath explained “SPASA is a perfect example of an NFP operating in the best interests of its members while delivering benefits that impact communities nationwide.

“We are committed to promoting, protecting and growing a sector that enhances lifestyles, strengthens businesses and contributes to the wellbeing of society.”

McGrath goes on to explain SPASA’s success has been achieved through organic growth, mergers and acquisitions - launched a new product every 90 days over the past five years.

In the past year alone, its SPLASH! Trade Expo became the largest pool and spa trade show to be held in the southern hemisphere, while the Pool Spa Life initiative for consumers was launched and Pool Spa Life Expos in all mainland states.

SPASA members also can access resources including technical support, human resource tools and education sessions while also being able to attend more than 70 national events each year.
